Jen Patashnick began studying Uechi-ryu in 1996 at Brandeis University, receiving her shodan in 1999.  She joined the Butokukai, under the tutelage of Sensei Allan Azoff, around 2002, at Allan Azoff's Martial Arts Academy in Lexington, MA, where she holds the position of sempai and title of shihan.  Although Uechi has always been her primary focus, in previous years, she has cross-trained in Jeet Kune Do and Hung Gar Kung Fu, and currently studies Filipino Martial Arts under Tuhon Michael Williams and Guro May Williams whose Martial Arts Research Institute is in Salem, MA.

Beyond the martial arts world, Jen is self-employed as a postpartum doula and family educator, supporting clients, teaching classes, and leading groups for expectant and new parents through her business, Wonderful Welcome.  She lives in Carlisle, MA with her spouse, two teenaged children, and a rescued hound mix named Phoenix.  Additional interests include herbalism, music, theater, reading, and baking.
